Scott Vilas: continuing the family tradition

Freshman Scott Vilas joined the team early in the summer. He steadily dropped his mile time and went from running just under 7 minutes to running 5:47. He also PR'd in the mile with a 5:28 during the 2 mile race at Humble. Scott's dad ran cross country in college and has been one of the factors that is contributing to Scott's success this year.

KXC: How did you find out about the team and the summer workouts?

Scott: My dad found a paper about it on the internet.

KXC: What did you do for your first workout?

Scott: 4 miles around the ditch in front of the school. It was pretty hard because that was the first time I ever ran 4 miles.

KXC: How has your training gone since that day?

Scott: I think it has progressed a lot. My times have gotten a lot faster.

KXC: Do you think you could handle more than 4 miles now?

Scott: Without a doubt.

KXC: Saturday you will run a 3 mile race at Stafford with district only about a week and a half away. What are your goals for this Saturday and then district?

Scott: I'd like to break 18 minutes for 3 miles this week and I'd like to win district.

KXC: What do you think it will take for you to accomplish those goals?

Scott: Doing my best and giving it everything I have. Coach also thinks I need to maintain a positive attitude before the race.

KXC: How do you prepare for a meet the night before?

Scott: I have a big dinner and a good night's rest.

KXC: What do you eat?

Scott: Nothing in particular.

KXC: How many days in a row have you ran?

Scott: Like 7 because when I hurt my leg I had to stop. I had 40 something before that.

KXC: Thanks Scott have a great week and good luck Saturday and at District.
