Varsity field events, JV prelims underway

HALL STADIUM - Junior Vaness Emokpae began the day by finishing 2nd in the boys high jump, clearing 6-2 and qualifying for the regional championships on April 29-30. Senior Veronica Rodriguez tied her personal best in the high jump of 5-2 but it was only good enough for 4th place. Rodriguez will be the alternate for the regional meet.

Sophomore Allen Livingston ran another smart race sitting on a runner from Hightower for six laps then making a strong move to pull away for the win. Livingston was able to PR by 8 seconds on the season and break the eleven minute barrier with his 10:55. Sophomore Bernardo Palomera came from sixth place with a horrendous kick down the homestretch and finished 3rd with a personal best of 11:19. Freshman Juan Trujillo ran a hard and finished 5th with a personal best of 12:25, that's along way from Juan's 17 minute 3200 meter cross country races he was running last fall.

In the junior varsity girls race, freshman Brigette Thrash had a great day, setting personal record by over a minute for a thrid place finish! Sophomore Diana Gomez came through with a 5th place finish for the Lady Cougars.

Thursday night will be the final day of the District 20-5A Championships at Hall Stadium. Come out and support the Cougars!
