David Koistinen: a sophomore who wants to make 3 state xc appearances
David Koistinen race shocked on Saturday and everything went according to plan. Unfortunately he had to run in the JV race but finished 8th while struggling home from the ultra fast early pace. David was the number 2 man on varsity at Mayde Creek and has been very consistent this year. He set his current PR of 17:29 at Mayde Creek on a very muddy course. We are confident that when he gets some good conditions he will be well under 17 minutes for 3 miles.
KXC: David last year you got hurt in he middle of the season, how hard was it for you to get through that?
David: Uhhhmmm, it was pretty tough because I really wanted to run the rest of my meets and district to get my letterman.
KXC: This year you have started out very well, what do you attribute that to?
David: Training hard all summer and eating healthier that last year.
KXC: This week the conditions should be perfect, what type of time goal have you set for the 3 mile course?
David: 16:30
KXC: When you race, what are you thinking about?
David: My form and just keeping calm and getting ready for my kick.
KXC: In recent history, the time goal to make it to the state meet in our region is under 16:10. Is that time attainable for you this year? Why or why not?
David: Defintely, because I just think I'm going to get better. I just feel good.
KXC: What do you do to get yourself mentally prepared for a race?
David: I don't really do anything special like listen to music or anything.
KXC: What do you do to get yourself physically prepared for a race?
David: Make sure I get a lot of sleep the night before and try not to drink milk or anything because I get cramps.
KXC: What do you like to eat before race day?
David: Steak, ha ha
KXC: Why is that funny?
David: Because if my dad reads that he's going to buy me steak before a race.
KXC: What was your favorite meet last year?
David: Lamar Consolidated because I PRed and that was my last race before I got injured.
KXC: Thank you David, good luck on Saturday and with your high set of intervals on Thursday.
