Kempner XC opens season at Cougar Classic

The Kempner Cross Country team traveled to MacGregor Park to compete in the University of Houston's Cougar Classic. Complete results can be found at www.texastrack.com.

The Cougar Classic does not run varsity or junior varsity races. Instead, the races are run by grade level. The race distance is 3200m and the course was flat with a little bit of mud. Kempner had outstanding performances from Seniors Eric Sheppard, Chris Pine and Veronica Rodriguez, who all medaled by placing in the top 15 of their races. Junior Amy Machemehl medaled in her race by running 13:30 and placing 12th. Sophomore Elizabeth Westlake ran the fastest girls' time of the day(13:00) finishing 4th in her race behind last years' 5A state champion Nicole Jones of Westfield. There were numerous outstanding performances which will lead to the selection of next week's team, which will be competing at the Rice Invitational.
