Junior Amy Machemehl

Machemehl reviews her success

Junior Amy Machemehl is having a breakthrough season. She splits her time between cross country and basketball and all of her hard work is beginning to pay off. We had a chance to ask her about what is causing this success.

Kempner XC: Hi, Amy. You had a great race this past Saturday!. We'll talk a little about that, but first let's get to know a little about you. We always like to start with: what's your favorite movie?
Amy Machemehl: That's easy. Ask anyone and they'll say Spiderman.

KXC: What's your favorite food?
AM: Mac n' cheese...my pre-race meal is pasta and bread!

KXC: What's your favorite cross country workout?
AM: Threshhold runs, because we get to see how fast we really are.

KXC: What were your goals coming into this season?
AM: I thought it'd be really cool to make it to state, but I want the girls to sweep at district and show everyone who's boss.

KXC: Looking back to last year, what were some of the things that held you back?
AM: Not running over the summer killed me.

KXC: What meet are you most looking forward to this year?
AM: District of course! But I liked that Aldine course so I'm looking forward to regionals also.

KXC: How did you feel after your huge PR last Saturday at Aldine?
AM: When I looked down at my watch and it sasid 12:40 I felt like a big dog.

KXC: How much faster will you need to run on that course to qualify for state?
AM: I'll have to leave it all on the course and run in the low 12:00s or 11:00s...that's going to be hard.

KXC: How is this year different from last year?
AM: We're working our buns off but it's paying off big time.

KXC: How do you feel?
AM: Feelin' pretty good.

KXC: Thanks Amy and good luck Friday.

Amy and the rest of KXC will be competing in the Cy-Fair Invitational on Friday. It will be their last race before the district championships on Friday, Octber 22nd. The team will workout Friday, October 15th on the district meet course at 9:00am.
