KXC Dedicating District to Anna Koistinen

Anna Koistinen (younger sister of varsity runner David Koistinen) underwent successful surgery on her back today. She has been a steadfast supporter and participant of KXC all summer and season long. The team will be dedicating this year's district championships to her. We love you, Anna. Get well soon. You've got a lot of mileage to make up. : )

Saharrible...I don't think so

Junior Sahar Halim has come a long way since her freshman year."I was in a burger joint in Berkeley, California when I got a call on my mobile phone from someone named Sahar. Apparently she had been in the summer strength and conditioning program and wanted to run cross country so someone gave her my number," said Coach Dye. Her goal at the beginning of this year was to break 16 minutes at district and she did that at the Sweeny meet. She can be described as the team's breakthrough athlete of the year.

KXC: Sahar, do you feel like this is a breakthrough season?

Sahar: Yes absolutley. I've been setting huge PR's all season and at almost every meet.

KXC: You didn't have a good race at Stafford. What do you attribute that to?

Sahar: I had a donut before the race, and I guess I just felt bad. I shouldn't have eaten that donut.

Hannah: My bad. : (

KXC: Since you have already hit your district goal, have you reset your goal for district?

Sahar: Yes, I want to run 14:50 and be in the top 10.

KXC: A year ago you would not have thought that would be realistic. Obviously you think it is realistic now. Why?

Sahar: I have been working a lot harder this year and the new training we've been doing has helped make me want to come to practice and actually try. Now that I have a goal time to hit everyday and it gives me a purpose for every practice.

KXC: Last year when you found out you were running JV, you were not happy. Did you think it was the right decision?

Sahar: Yes, I was upset. I'm happy I've been on JV this year. It has helped build my confidence.

KXC: We have gone through a sort of paradigm shift this season with our training. How has it helped you?

Sahar: I think it has helped me a lot. The intervals have taught me how to go out hard and go hard for as long as I can.

KXC: Do you feel like you can run harder for longer periods of time with each race?

Sahar: Yes, I surprise myself by how long I can stay in the front.

KXC: How many days in a row have you run?

Sahar: Oh man, I don't remember. It was 168 last Thursday. It is 175 today.

KXC: What are you most looking forward to when the season ends?

Sahar: I don't want the season to be over.

KXC: Thank you Sahar, good luck at district on Friday.
