Lamar Cons. Relays Results

ROSENBERG - Senior Veronica Rodriguez started the day with a 3rd place finish in the high jump tying her best mark of 5-2. She then went on to place 5th in the pole vault with 9-0. Teammate, and fellow senior, Tina Escobar, finished just ahead of Rodriguez placing 4th with 9-6. Senior Chris Pine had a good day by proving he could run a smart race in the wind over 3200m then an "all-guts" race in the 1600m. Pine went out in the 3200 and sat on the leaders for 2500 meters before finally pulling away, unfortunately 2003 4A State Cross Country champion, Edy Vargas of Foster, went with him. Pine finished second in a respectable 10:23. Pine got revenge on Vargas in the 1600m however. He set out with a goal of 4:38 and with 300 meters to go he knew he had it. Pine blew past Vargas on the back stretch and finished second to teammate Eric Shepard with a 4:36.03 FAT. Sheppard was the winner in the 1600m with a time of 4:33.17 FAT and also won the 800m with a 1:59.07 FAT. Sheppard led both races wire to wire. Immediately following the 1600 Sheppard jumped up to run 3rd leg of the 1600m Relay splitting 51.6. TJ Theus had the fastest split with 48.1 and the team was edged Lamar Cons., 3:27.81 to 3:27.94, their best time of the year. Click here for meet results.
