Westlake, Hampton, Cougar Boys...All win!!!

GEORGE BUSH PARK-The Cougar Cross Country teams show signs of physical fitness at Friday afternoon's race against the Bush Broncos. The girls race started things off with senior Elizabeth Westlake leading the race from wire to wire. Westlake finished third last week against Stratford but was able to upset the 2006 District 1600m runner-up, Sonya Solario of Bush for the win. Having great races were senior Brittany Moreno and freshman Briana Gifford who finished 4th and 5th respectively on the two mile course. Sophomore Katherine Toy was able to recover from an early trip to be the 4th lady cougar across the line. Sophomore Sahar Halim earned "Runner of the Day" honors with her impressive finishing kick to beat out a lady bronco runner.

The boys' race started next and the cougars looked like a veteran team. The cougars scored a mere 17 points to win the race. The results were junior Errol Hampton, 1st, junior Shalin Dalal, 2nd, freshman David Koistinen, 3rd, sophomore Chris Ysais, 4th and junior Juan Trujillo rounded out the top 5 with a 7th place finish.

There were many great efforts during the meet and a lot of kids were running for the first time. The cougars' had one of there greatest turn-outs ever for this early in the season. If the Bush meet is a sign of things to come, then Cougar Cross Country may see its best year ever.
