ROSENBERG - The Lady Cougars won the LCISD Invitational beating Alvin by 20. The ladies beat several other schools including district rivals Clements, Dulles, and Hightower. Led once again by the dynamic duo of Elizabeth Westlake and Amy Machemehl, who were 5th and 6th with times of 12:41 and 12:44 respectively. Junior Brittany Moreno ran great again and just missed an individual medal with an 11th place finish. Moreno also improved her best time for two miles to a 13:04. Senior Tommi Higgins placed 23rd with a 14:10 and junior Nicole Schinderle finished 33rd with a 14:21. Nikki Gifford also brought her best time down to 14:53 and senior Amanda Pena ran varsity for the first time improving to a 15:03. The girls ran smart and stayed close to the front of the field of 80 throughout the race.
Junior Bernardo Palomera led the boys to a 7th place finish. The boys did not come with the best today and were beaten by 4 points by Clements.
In the boys JV race junior Edgar Rubio took home a medal with an 8th place finish and a decent two mile time of 11:56. The freshmen boys looked much improved as the top 3 came in together in 15th, 16th and 17th. The team finished 4th but were beaten by Hightower.
The team will run at Deer Park this Friday.
