MISSOURI CITY - Four out of five dentists choose Kempner as their district champs. KXC dedicated the district meet to Anna Koistinen and represented her well. Anna was named the Athlete of the Week for persevering through back surgery on Wednesday.

The varsity girls were right in the thick of the race but Briana Gifford's knee just would not hold up this time and she slipped to 14th overall. Katherine Toy however had the mind set of "not today," meaning that she would not let up and she led the team to a very close second place finish. The pack was tight once again, with the top four girls placing 4th through 7th. Austin however proved to be too formidable and scored 34 points to the girls' 36.

The varsity boys did manage a 37 to 60 win over newcomer Travis. Spencer Buxton of Travis sat on Shalin the entire race and out kicked him in the last 150 meters. The varsity boys were not particularly happy with their performance but it was enough for the team championship, ending a three year drought.

The sub-varsity level proved to be just as successful. Kempner won JV boys, JV girls and freshman divisions. The freshmen looked particularly strong as Aharown Sparrow, Scott Vilas and Jose Vilche took the top three spots respectively.

Up next for Kempner in two weeks is the regional meet at North Harris College on November 3rd where the varsity boys hope to advance to the state championships in Round Rock for the first time since John Rainbolt did it in 2001.
