Two Athletes of the Week at Region III Championships

NORTH HARRIS COLLEGE (Nov. 3) - Kempner XC finished its season Saturday with a fantastic performance at North Harris College. The girls finished 18th in 2006 and this year they moved up to 14th with 4 of the top 7 returning. They were led by senior Zelda Abadom who finished 80th with a 12:47. Sophomore Hiba Kreidie and junior Katherine Toy followed closely behind Abadom finishing 85th and 86th in 12:50 and 12:51 respectively. Junior Gina Keidel was unsure if she would be able to compete due to a foot injury suffered the day before but she remembered the movie, "Prefontaine," and sucked it up to run a PR of 13:25 and come in as the crucial 5th man and earning Athlete of the Week.

Boys were 22nd in 2006 but improved ten places this year to finish 12th overall. Shalin Dalal's 4:45 opening mile was not enough to get him into the state championships but he ran a respectable 23rd with a 16:26 5k PR. Sophomore David Koistinen set PRs for the mile and two mile during the race with a 4:49 and 10:33 following the race strategy perfectly. David finished 50th overall with a 5k PR of 16:52 which earned him Athlete of the Week honors as well.
